Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
The Vice Provost for Academic Affairs works with the Provost, the Academic Deans, the Dean of Undergraduate Education and the Dean of the Graduate School. The Vice Provost for Academic Affairs oversees the following units: Library & Gallery, Interdisciplinary Studies, International Education Services, International Programs, the Office of Institutional Research, and The Hilltop Institute. Dr. Moreira is responsible for space issues from the Provost’s Office. He coordinates the development and approval procedures for new academic programs and has responsibility for the periodic review of current academic programs. Dr. Moreira takes the lead within the Academic Affairs Division for the planning efforts for the new Performing Arts & Humanities Building which started construction on July 1, 2010 for its Phase I. He chairs the campus IT Steering Committee, the Classroom Committee, the Blue Ribbon Committee on the Library, and the UMBC Diversity Council. Dr. Moreira represents UMBC in the Council of Biotechnology Centers of the BIO Industry Organization. He maintains his teaching and research responsibilities in Chemical, Biochemical and Environmental Engineering, serves as the Director of the Biochemical Regulatory Engineering program, and is involved with interfacing with the PDA Training and Research Institute.
